January 8 of this year happens to be the eighth day of the twelfth month of Lunar Chinese Calendar (known as Layue in Chinese).
The largest photo expedition tour in Zhangjiajie s Wulingyuan District— "Capturing Zhangjiajie, One Thousand Photographers Expedition Tour in the New Year " was held in the Wulingyuan Scenic Area on January 6, 2014.
On January 4, the first Hunan Folk Art Awards was held in Changsha. It is the first time for Hunan Province to give prizes to folk art works for over sixty years since the founding of the New China.
The Changsha Urban and Rural Planning Bureau announced on January 3, 2014 that Changsha s greenways is expected to reach 1,336 kilometers long in total.
The world’s first mountain tunnel elevator started operation in Zhangjiajie, Hunan on December 28, 2013. It is 692 meters long and can carry 72,000 passengers per day.
