It was learnt from the Archaeological Institute of Changsha City that during the archaeological excavation near the Wuyi Square, a wooden-structure drainage ditch from Song Dynasty (960-1279 AD) was discovered on January 10. It has become the second well-preserved drainage facility in the Song Dynasty after the wooden-structure water-supply and sewerage in the Southern Song Dynasty (1127-1279 AD) discovered in Pozi Street in 2004.
The relics of wooden-structure drainage, with a total length of 10.2 meters, a width of 2.63 meters and a height of 1.62 meters, is made up of three combined wooden boards in the shape of triangle from the side face. It protrudes with two side boards on one side, and on the other side it sinks so that the baseboard groove can bear side boards.
According to archaeologists, this drainage ditch is only several hundred meters away from the wooden-structure drainage facility of the Southern Song Dynasty discovered in 2004. With the same material, shape and craftsmanship, two discoveries provide important physical materials for archaeologists to study large-scale municipal water-supply and drainage facilities in the Song Dynasty. Changsha City is estimated to be equipped with relatively perfect drainage system in the Song Dynasty.
