The tunnel operated by escalators through Tianmen Mountain of Zhangjiajie City in Hunan was put into operation on April 25.
The tunnel spanning 672 meters consists of 12 sections, with a total operation length of 897 meters and hoisting height of 340 meters. It is equipped with 16 sets of 30-meter heavy-duty escalators and three sets of 20-meter ones. These escalators can carry 3,600 tourists for one-way trip per hour, running directly from Tianmen Hole to the top of Tianmen Mountain.
Tianmen Mountain scenic spot also opens two sightseeing routes. By route A, tourists can take a ropeway to the top of the mountain, and then take the escalator to the Tianmen Cave, and finally go back the Shiqu Ropeway Station at the foot of the mountain by bus. By route B, tourists can take free bus from Shiqu Ropeway Station to Tianmen Hole, then reach the mountaintop by the elevator, and go back by ropeway.
Tourists can choose either of them for the ticket price for the two lines is the same. The new sightseeing routes can not only reduce tourists’ queuing time, but also facilitate the travel between mountaintop and the Tianmen Hole. Two ticket offices are set at Shiqu Ropeway Station and the gate of the mountain to further ease the tourist flow.
