The Third World Wingsuit Championship is to be held on Tianmen Mountain in Zhangjiajie from October 14 to 19. More than 20 top athletes from all over the world will compete for the title this year.
As per the rules, there will be an elimination round, qualification round and final round. After two rounds of competition, the fastest ten pilots will compete against the fastest six athletes from last year in the elimination round for the championship. The contest this year will see some changes; instead of the usual single timing rule, this two-pilot PK competition has been introduced, making the show more spectacular and thrilling. Unlike last year’s distance, ranging from 800 meters to 1km, this year's edition will have a straight distance of about 1.7 to 2km, meaning the athletes will have to jump from a cliff and fly directly to a point at its base.
It is expected to take the pilots almost 40-50 sec to complete the course.
The fastest speeds reached will be about 200 kph. Two pilots racing together lasting for 40 seconds will be seen in the super-long course.
Wingsuit flying, known as the King of Extreme Sports, is the ultimate unpowered human flying and is honored with one of 25 world inventions issued by TIME. Zhang Shupeng, a 29-year-old pilot from Inner Mongolia will be the first Chinese to participate in the championship. He has flied 570 times and has been dreaming of competing in the game for years.

World Wingsuit League Tests New Route for Competition in Mount Tianmen, Zhangjiajie
On July 22, Mount Tianmen of Zhangjiajie, Hunan enjoyed a cloudless blue sky. Suddenly, a white shadow with “wings” leaped down from the peak of the cliff at the east side of Tianmen Mountaintop, crossing gorges and peaks and landing safely on a winding mountain road.
