At present, 64 water scenic areas have been established in Hunan Province, forming a water recreation community that encompasses the province's main rivers and reservoirs, key irrigated areas, and soil and water conservation.
However, the water scenic areas are confronted with various problems in the course of development. The Symposium on Water Scenic Areas and Aquatic Ecological Civilization was held on August 28, Wang Jijian, director of the Comprehensive Business Bureau of Department of Water Resources Department of Hunan Province, required all the water scenic areas should take human-water harmony as their orientation with protection as their main task in the process of construction and development at the symposium.
Last year, three scenic spots were awarded the national water scenic areas such as Liuye Lake, along with other seven were honored water scenic areas at the provincial level including Yanghu Wetland Park. After on-the-spot survey and evaluation of Qingshui Lake and Shaoshan irrigation area in June, which have been applying for the national water scenic areas, the experts of Ministry of Water Resources fully appreciated their quality and declaration.
