Hunan's rural tourism areas and sites received 120 million visitors in 2013, registering an income of 19 billion yuan.
 
According to the Hunan Tourism Bureau, at the end of 2013, Hunan boasted seven national demonstration counties and 14 demonstration sites of leisure agriculture and rural tourism, 34 counties with powerful tourism industry at the national and provincial level, 60 towns and 195 villages famous for tourism, and more than 4,000 rural recreational tourism areas and spots. Among the 2,019 star areas and spots for rural recreational tourism, 214 were 5-star rated.
