Furong Town
Furong Town is an old village with a history of 2,000 years and its name comes from a famous Chinese film entitled "Furong Town" once shot here.Furong Town, original named Wangcun, is located in Yongshun county, Tujia-Miao autonomous prefecture of west Hunan province. It is a typical ancient town mainly inhabited Tujia ethnic group. In the town, up to now, well-preserved black flagstone road and ancient living buildings (mainly Diao Jiaolou which is also named Diao Lou which is a traditional living building style in some ethnic minorities, such as Miao Minority, Tujia Minority, Zhuang Minority etc. Most of them are built by moutains with a shape of one sitting tiger.) are still here. Its main attractions are those older wooden buildings since it is an old village with a history of 2,000 years.In history, Furong Town is the site of former Youyang city in Qin and Han Dynasties (221BC-220AD). Furthermore, it is the only way of Mengdong River waterway tour and the south gate of Mengdong river scenic spot with convenient railway, highway and waterway transportation.All exterior views of film “Furong Town” was taken from here since its unique scenery attracts people very much. And after then, Furong Town became well-known and changed its original name Wangcun to Furong town.Xizhou Copper Pillar set as a war covenant with more than 2,300 characters on it. It recorded covenant of dismissing troops and reconciling made between Emperor of Chu, Maxifan and the King of headman in 940 AD. This offers rich material on nation relation study in ancient China.There is a waterfall in Furong ancient town which is about 60 meters high and 70 meters wide. Walking into the hanging water screen is just like standing in a crystal house.It’s certain you will enjoy yourself and find fun in this ancient town with a long history and most of people here are Tujia ethnic groups.
