On August 11, the preparatory meeting of 2014 Jishou International Drum Festival was held in Jishou City of Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, Hunan Province, through which the preparatory work for the festival was officially deployed.
7 international drum teams, 16 domestic ones from other provinces and regions, and 5 teams from the prefecture are invited to join the festival which themed “resound the world with drums”. Besides, a series of theme activities will be held during the festival, such as competition for the title of “Chinese Drum King”, Chinese Drum Culture Forum, the second WeChat competition of “Gu Yun Jishou”, and design contest of tourism commodities.
Domestic representative drummers will be invited to join the selection of “Chinese Drum King”. The rules for the competition are prescribed by the Professional Committee of Chinese Percussion Music, and drum culture experts from home and abroad will attend the competition as judges. The Drum King winner will be awarded prize money according to their scores on skills, difficulty, and presentation.
