Qianyang Ancient Town in western Hunan's Hongjiang City was approved as a 4A National Scenic Spot by the National Scenic Spots Quality Grade Evaluation Committee on September 24.
The ancient town has a history of more than 2,200 years. It is criss-crossed with nine streets and eighteen alleys lined with ancient buildings dating back to Ming (1368-1644) and Qing Dynasties (1644-1911). It is dotted with many great historic sites including Furong Tower, Nanzheng Street, Confucius Temple, ancient County Government Office Building, Filial Piety Temple, Bell and Drum Towers, Longevity Palace, Zhongzheng Gate and ancient walls. These well-preserved harmonious styled ancient buildings earned the town the title of “South China Filming Base" where more than 60 movies were shot, such as A Dream of Youth and My Heart is Bright. It was also renowned as Ancient Building Museum in the south of the Yangtze River.
This May, Qianyang Ancient Building Complex and Furong Tower entered the list of key cultural relic sites under the state-level protection.
Hongjiang City has been expanding the exploitation of the ancient town's tourism resources in a scientific, rational and sustainable manner. Local government has invested 220 million yuan to improve infrastructure, tourism service facilities and upgrade the image of tourist attractions.
