Hunan's Four Intangible Cultural Heritage Items Win "Sun Bird Award"

The 4th International Festival of Intangible Cultural Heritage drew its curtain in Chengdu, capital of southwest China's Sichuan Province. During the festival, 4 intangible cultural heritage items from Hunan including Xiang Embroidery, Brocade Weaving Skill of Dong People were granted the "Sun Bird Award". 

The "Sun Bird Award" was set by the Organizing Committee of the Chengdu International Festival of Intangible Cultural Heritage to commend outstanding units and individuals in protecting the intangible cultural heritage items. Hunan is one of the nine provinces that received the "Sun Bird Award" special award which was conferred to Hunan Provincial Department of Culture. In addition, the Xiang Embroidery, Brocade Weaving Skill of Dong People received "Sun Bird Award" best show award while the Female Script Custom and Brocade Weaving Skill of Tujia People won the excellent show award.

As the demonstration items of Hunan included in the first batch of national intangible cultural heritage items, the weaving skills of Dong People in Tongdao Dong Autonomous County and of Tujia People in Longshan County were presented to the public at the festival by their heirs. Nvshu (Women's Writing) Custom and the manufacturing skills of Xiang Embroidery and Anhua Black Tea were also exhibited at the event.
