On June 20, 2013, the Yao people were dressed in the traditional festival customs to celebrate the "Mud-washing Festival" in Goulan Yao Village, Jiangyong County, Yongzhou, Hunan.
The Mud -washing Festival, with a history of one thousand years, is a traditional festival held every year. People put away their sowing tools like plow and harrow and wash their bodies after the spring sowing. They also sing and dance (e.g. dragon dance), worship gate tower, and play stick and martial art to worship the God of Grain for good weather and peaceful and prosperous life.
