Changsha to Act as High-speed Railway Hub of China

The National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) recently issued "Guiding Opinions on Promoting the Development of Comprehensive Traffic Hubs". According to the Opinions, Changsha, Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and other 38 cities will be built into national comprehensive traffic hubs during the "Twelfth Five-year Plan" period.

Advantages of high-speed railway

The newly-planned Yuxia High-speed Railway (from Chongqing to Xiamen) is expected to run through Changsha, cross-connected with Changsha section of Hukun High-speed Railway (from Shanghai to Kunming). Upon its completion, Wuhan-Guangzhou High-speed Railway, Hukun High-speed Railway and Yuxia High-speed Railway will meet in Changsha, making the city the largest high-speed railway hub in central China.

Multilevel traffic

Flight is an indispensable pivot of the multilevel traffic in Changsha. Last year, the passenger throughput of Huanghua International Airport ranked first in central areas. During the "Twelfth Five-year Plan" period, it will turn trunk airport into hub airport and air harbor into air city. As for shipping, the cargo throughput of Changsha's Xianing Port accounted for 30 percent of the province’s total in the previous year, taking the lead in ports of Changsha-Zhuzhou-Xiangtan City Cluster.

Coming effects

With the completion of national traffic hubs, more and more talents, materials, capital and information will gather in Changsha, thus expand development space of Changsha and even Zhuzhou and Xiangtan.
