On the morning of February 12, shield machines restarted excavation in the southern line of the Nanhu Road Xiangjiang River Tunnel of Nanhu Road. The whole project is expected to be open to traffic in October, 2013. There are currently more than 200 construction workers from the China Railway Tunnel Group (CTG) taking charge of the southern line, eager to get back to work after the Spring Festival.
The single-layer Nanhu Road Xiangjiang River Tunnel has southern and northern lines. The two lines under the Xiangjiang River were excavated by Orange Isle and Orange Isle Ⅱ shield machines from East to West, with a total length of 1,374 meters and 1,343 meters respectively. Orange Isle started excavation in December 2011 and finished in January of this year; the northern line is now open to traffic. Orange Isle Ⅱ, working on the southern line, is nearly finished, and with 100 meters left is expected to be open to traffic by the end of February this year.
The open excavation along the Xiangjiang River is in full swing. Currently, 90% of the excavation has been completed on the east bank of the Xiangjiang River and 50% on the west bank. The estimated time of completion for these projects is July and September of this year, respectively.
