Xiangtan Strives to Join Changsha in Five Years

The Xiangtan Municipal Government 2013 Work Report delivered at the Xiangtan Municipal People's Congress and Xiangtan Municipal People's Political Consultative Conference maps out the city's five-year urban construction plan. According to the plan, Xiangtan will connect with Changsha to the north following the scenic belt along the Xiangjiang River; Inter-city passages will utilize Jiuhua Avenue and Fulin Avenue in the west and Furong Avenue in the east; New Wanlou Community, Yuhu Community and New Jiuhua Community in Xiangtan will gradually merge into Changsha's Xiangjiang River Greater West Bank while Xiangtan Hi-tech Industrial Development Zone; New Yuetang Community and Shaoshan District will intersect with Changsha's urban district on the east bank.

The plan also prioritizes improvement of auxiliary facilities in the downtown area, especially the central urban district on the east bank of the Xiangjiang River, and the renovation of the old urban district on the west bank of the Xiangjiang River.
