Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon is located in Sanguansi Tujia Minority Township,northwest part of Cili County.It's about 10 kilometers away from Zhangjiajie's Wulingyuan Scenic Area. Covering a total area of 60 sqaure kilometers, Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon is a new attraction in Zhangjiajie City, which was opened to tourists in 2010.
What to see?
With a total length of 15 kilometers, a stream snakes in Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon. Visitors need to walk along the path built in the deep gorge, and then enjoy landscapes of the water by boat.It will take more than 2 hours touring in the canyon. A lot of attractions will be caught by your eyes while you come here.
First, you have to pass the gorge if you want to travel in Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon. Located between both sides of high cliffs,the gorge looks like an opening door to welcome you. Walking down along the ladder plank ,you will get to the bottom of the canyon.With the vertical height difference of more than 300 meters, the ladder plank is over 700 meters.
On the left hand,there is a ditch hanged on the deep cliff. Built by the local people in 1960s, the ditch is about one meters wide , and over 10 kilometers long. The water flowing on the ditch is about one meters deep. The man-made ditch is named the South Red Flag Canal , and it is the second superb view in the scenic area. The are many waterfalls in Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon. Standing at the viewing platform of the canal,you can get sight of the Tianhe Waterfalls. The second most famous waterfalls is Xuansi Water Falls. Enjoying the water here, visitors can feel it's cool. In fact, there is a cave hidden by the waterfalls in mountainous.
Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon Skywalk is building and will be finished in three years. The Glass Skywalk is built on both sides of the summits of the grand canyon. With an relative height of 400 meters, and a total length of 370 meters,the Glass Skywalk will be built to declare the Guinness of World Records. On 1st May, 2011, two attached glass bridges were opened to tourists.
In the last part of Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon, there is a man-made lake which was constructed first to be the power station. Now, please take boat for cruise on the lake. You can see wild ducks playing in the water, as well as egrets passing from the surface of the water.
